The Importance of Prototyping with Pelham Norville

We’ve experimented in the last year a new weekly ritual at Connected called “Between Two Silos”; a live interview that we host internally for all Connectors to watch.
“Between Two Silos” is where we have candid and important conversations with leaders on topics at the intersections of building better products. It’s proven to be a great forum for interesting conversations and connections.
It has become a favourite ritual for our Connectors. “Between Two Silos” is a place for everyone to connect in our remote-first workplace and an opportunity for us to learn together.
A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of learning from Pelham Norville, Head of Category Management and Strategy at Bose Corporation.
He was interviewed by our very own, Ramiz Khan, to discuss what we care passionately about at Connected: the purpose of building a prototype.
Video caption: The purpose of the prototype is never to build the product, it’s to test your hypothesis. To learn whether to solve a need for a user. Everything else about what you build can be throwaway, as long as you learned if whether you solved this need or didn’t. If you didn’t, fantastic. As long as you understand why I didn’t hit the mark this time, I can do better next time. And to do that rapidly, and iterate, and test, and learn – much better than building this entire product and shipping out to the market place and getting that feedback after it’s already on store shelves. I think that was a great opportunity for us to evangelize these techniques at the company too.

Global Day of Coderetreat Toronto 2022
Earlier this month, we hosted Global Day of Coderetreat (GDCR) at our Toronto office. After a three-year hiatus, we wanted to re-awaken some of the community enthusiasm when we hosted the event for the first time back in 2019.
